Overview
PDF Annotator ("the app", "we", "our") is a browser-based annotation tool. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information — if any — the app collects, how it is used, and your rights with respect to that information.
The short version: we collect nothing. Your files never leave your device.
Information We Do Not Collect
PDF Annotator does not collect, transmit, store, or share:
- The PDF files or images you load into the app
- The annotations, drawings, or notes you create
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Your IP address or location
- Any usage analytics or telemetry data
All document processing — including PDF rendering, annotation drawing, and PDF export — happens entirely within your browser using JavaScript. No file content is ever sent to any remote server.
Local Storage
The app uses your browser's localStorage to save:
- Annotations — stored per filename under the key
ann:<filename>, so your drawings are restored the next time you open the same file in the same browser. This can be disabled in the app's Settings panel. - User preferences — stored under the key
app:settings, including your preferred tool, color, stroke width, and display options.
localStorage data is stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers (which do not exist). You can clear all stored data at any time using the "Clear all browser data" button in the app's Settings panel, or by clearing your browser's local storage directly.
Third-Party Services
Google AdSense
This website may display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. For more information about how Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps, visit google.com/policies/privacy/partners.
Content Delivery
The app is served as a static site from Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may log standard web server access data (IP address, browser type, pages visited) in accordance with Cloudflare's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to or control over this data.
Cookies
The app itself does not set any cookies. Cookies may be set by Google AdSense for advertising purposes as described above. You can control cookie settings through your browser's preferences.
Children's Privacy
PDF Annotator is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can address it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
